An Oconomowoc community is mourning the loss of a beloved educator whose kindness and dedication left a lasting impression on countless young lives. Georgie Krenz, a first-grade teacher at Summit Elementary School, passed away on September 9 at the age of 51, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to her students and family.
Those who knew Georgie describe her as someone who truly was “a light in every room.” Her presence brought comfort and joy, and her ability to connect with others—especially children—set her apart as an exceptional teacher. In her classroom, every student was made to feel valued, supported, and loved. She went beyond teaching academics, focusing on building confidence, nurturing curiosity, and ensuring each child felt seen and appreciated.
Georgie’s impact extended far beyond lesson plans and classroom walls. Parents and colleagues remember her as a strong advocate for her students. Lindsey Kupter, whose daughters were in Georgie’s class, recalled how Georgie took extra steps to support one of her children’s reading development. Even when test scores appeared strong, Georgie recognized an opportunity for growth and worked to ensure the student received additional support, ultimately helping her build greater confidence and fluency.
What made Georgie especially unique was her authenticity. She allowed her students to know her as a person, sharing stories about her life, her family, and her experiences. This openness created a sense of trust and connection that made her classroom feel like a second home. Students didn’t just learn from her—they felt cared for by her in a deeply personal way.
Outside of school, Georgie was equally devoted to her family. She was a loving wife to her husband, Wayne, and a proud mother to her children, Luke and Rachel. She was a constant presence in their lives, rarely missing a game or activity—often stepping in as a coach herself. She cherished time spent with her family, whether traveling to destinations like Mexico and Montana or enjoying adventures at their cabin. Simple moments, like long walks with her dog Bailey, were among the things she treasured most.
Georgie is survived by her husband, children, parents, siblings, and a large extended family who will carry her memory forward. Services were held at RiverGlen Christian Church, where loved ones gathered to celebrate her life.
Though her passing leaves a profound void, Georgie Krenz’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the students she inspired, and the love she shared so freely.
